Bringin' you these beauts from the colorful lakeside villages of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. Woven on mini foot looms by local artisans using the indigenous weaving styles of the ancient Maya civilization, these bracelets are inspired by the traditional woven hair ribbons worn by Guatemalan women. The vibrant colors in this collection represent unique attributes of each village across this picturesque region where they’re made by hand.

Love Is Project has partnered with Mercado Global in Guatemala since 2018, employing 26 women weavers around Lake Atitlan. Mercado Global takes a holistic approach to breaking the cycle of poverty with a three-pronged approach: community-based education in art and finance, creating market access through connections to international sales opportunities, and asset development like microloans to help artisans purchase looms or incentives to save a portion of their salary.
At Lake Atitlán, I met Chrissie, founder and CEO of the Love Is Project, who had hired me for a whirlwind photoshoot across Lake Atitlán, into the artisan-based village San Antonio Palopó off to the colonially ornate and touristed city of Antigua.
